ATLANTIC CITY – Have you ever wondered how the wind turbines in Atlantic City work? Stop by the Atlantic County Utilities Authority open house tours every ‘Windsday’ in July and August to find out.
Beginning July 3, ACUA will offer free tours of its wind farm and Wastewater Treatment Facility located at 1801 Absecon Blvd. in Atlantic City at noon Wednesdays throughout July and August. Tours last approximately one hour and no reservations are required.
Visitors will learn about the wastewater treatment process and how wind and solar keep this important operation running. Guests will also receive a close-up view of the Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm, which has saved ACUA and its ratepayers more than $7.4 million dollars and prevented more than 78,000 metric tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
“We are happy to welcome visitors from near and far to our facility for a chance to learn about renewable energy and essential services like wastewater treatment,” ACUA President Matthew DeNafo said. “It’s not every day that residents get a behind-the-scenes look into the important work we do to keep our waterways clean or see a wind turbine up-close. We are excited to offer that opportunity to our community.”

ACUA’s Wastewater Treatment Facility is the largest hybrid wind and solar powered water treatment facility in the world. The wind farm is the first commercial development of its kind in the state, as well as the first coastal and urban wind farm in the nation.
Open House Tours are ideal for individuals or groups of five or less. Larger groups are encouraged to schedule a private tour. Tours are open to all ages but may be most appropriate for kids ages 8 and up.
No reservations are required, but visitors should plan to arrive promptly at noon.
