MARGATE – The Downbeach Express, the toll road leading to Margate from Northfield, has issued an apology for double billing cardholders.

The Downbeach Express, a privately owned toll road, offers discounts for those who sign up for an Express Pass automatic payment account. Having the card allows users to get through the toll booth quickly without having to pay the toll in cash. As of June 17, current tolls are $2.50 cash each way, and $1.85 for Express Pass users. The toll road does not accept E-Z Pass.

The company informed users early Wednesday morning that its credit card company had a technical issue on June 27 that resulted in duplicate charges for some users.

Downbeach Express has reconciled the affected accounts to ensure the extra charges are promptly refunded.

Those who were charged in error will have their accounts credited within 48 hours, Downbeach Express team said in a statement posted on its website.

“We deeply apologize for this error and assure you that we are doing everything possible to rectify the situation swiftly,” it said.
