  • Margate

There's a fiddler on the roof.

MARGATE - He just wants to be a rich man, but Tevye learns he is rich beyond measure with the help of his faith in Margate Players 2 production of the award-winning Broadway play, "Fiddler on the Roof Jr.," Thursday through Saturday, July 19-21 at the Dominick A. Potena Performing Arts Center.

The double-cast community theater production, directed by Lee Mamolen and Amy Melson and assisted by Rachel Waldman, features the music of Jerry Bock, lyrics of Sheldon Harnick based on the book by Joseph Stein. It is based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem with special permission of Arnold Perl. Debbie Roland is musical director and Melanie Brough is choreographer.

Tevye, a poor milkman, tries to protect his daughters and his way of life in a changing world. The show tackles the universal theme of tradition in ways that reach across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion.

The show features students from elementary and middle schools throughout the area, performing such memorable musical numbers as "Tradition," "Matchmaker," "If I Were a Rich Man," and "Sunrise, Sunset."

Showtime is 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.

The PAC is located at 8103 Winchester Avenue in Margate.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens and are available at the door. For more, see margateplayers.com.
