GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - The Howard Bacharach Scholarship Foundation has established an endowed scholarship for hospitality, tourism and culinary students at Stockton University.

Bacharach's wife, Ronnie, of Ventnor, and Maureen English of Manahawkin, vice president of the foundation, presented a check for $26,000 to Stockton President Harvey Kesselman and Chief Development Officer Daniel Nugent at the Scholarship Recognition Dinner Nov. 7.

Howard Bacharach served for more than a decade as executive director of the Atlantic City Hotel and Lodging Association where he coordinated many fund-raising events to support the association's education and scholarship program.

After his death in 2014, his wife created the scholarship foundation to continue his work.

His passion was to raise scholarship money, she said. I wanted to keep it going in his name.

Nugent said $25,000 will establish the endowment, and the additional $1,000 will be awarded to a student.

The extra $1,000 was so that we could start it immediately, Nugent said.
