Ross School students plan annual Day of Service

  • Margate

MARGATE Before they go on a week-long spring break, students at the William H. Ross Elementary School will be spending some time giving to others. During the school's Day of Service Thursday, April 18, students in each grade level will offer their time and talents to create care packages that will be distributed to residents at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.

Each grade collected different personal care items and will spend some time on the last day of school before spring break assembling the items into care packages. The day will end with a volunteer from the Rescue Mission accepting the donation during an assembly. The Margate City Fire Department will assist as well.

Parents of kindergarten students were asked to provide Band-Aids, antibiotic cream, Q-tips and cotton balls. For first grade parents, it was toothbrushes and tooth paste; second grade, combs and travel-sized tissues; third grade, deodorant and antibacterial wipes; and fourth grade, washcloths and soap.

Kindergarten students will decorate shoe boxes, first and second graders will put on labels and create positive messages to put inside the boxes, third graders will help sort items and fourth graders will assemble first aid kits and pack up the boxes for delivery to the mission.

Monetary donations are being accepted as well.
