Ventnor Police draw hundreds to National Night Out

  • Ventnor

Police Chief Doug Biagi welcomes Ventnor families to National Night Out.

VENTNOR - Hundreds of children, parents and grandparents turned out for the city's annual National Night Out held in the park behind the Ventnor Community Center Tuesday, Aug. 6 to rub elbows with police.

The event, which was hosted by the Ventnor Police Department, gave families the opportunity to meet their local law enforcement officers, hear an anti-drug message, learn about resources available in the community, and have some old fashioned family fun.

Police cooked up hot dogs, popcorn flowed and there were lots of activities for children, including pony rides, bouncy rides and everyone's favorite, handmade balloon animals. Ventnor's K-9 Unit, which includes K-9 Officers Axel and Joker, demonstrated their drug-sniffing abilities, while MedCycle Bike Patrol of Trenton conducted CPR demonstrations on adult and infant mannequins. Children got to see and climb aboard police vehicles and fire apparatus. The local business community supported the event.

National Night Out, which is held annually on the first Tuesday in August, is designed to foster a healthy relationship between neighbors and law enforcement. It brings together neighbors, police and social service agencies to make positive change in the community.
