GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - The Seashore Gardens Foundation gala held Aug. 1 raised more than $100,000 for programs and services that benefit the residents of Seashore Gardens Living Center, and honored key individuals with leadership and service awards.
With the theme, Home Is Where The Heart Is, the gala raised funds for the June M. Cohen Family Connection program, which offers families an online way to connect through video chats, and the Alzheimer's Sensory Trail and Healing Garden, which provides an ever-changing kaleidoscope of colors and scents in raised bed gardens with fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers and plants indigenous to the Jersey shore.
The foundation honored Janice T. Cambron with the 2019 Martin H. Klein Leadership Award, and Steven and Letty Chang with the 2019 Labov Bernstein Community Service Award.
Cambron is the former longtime executive director of SGLC whose numerous contributions include the intergenerational Summer Sizzlers Youth Program, the annual 5K/7K Walk/Run to benefit Alzheimer's Outreach Services, Stockton University's student internships in physical therapy and gerontology at SGLC, and the SGLC scholarship for the Atlantic City Metropolitan Business and Citizens Association.
The Changs, founders and owners of Essential Elements in Northfield, were honored for their countless contributions to the center and to the community. Letty Chang worked as a nursing supervisor. Steven Chang is a pharmacist and serves on the Seashore Gardens Foundation Board. In addition, they are regular sponsors of events and programs to enrich elder lives.
Board member Dean Scarpa served as master of ceremonies. Rabbi Aaron Krauss of Beth El Synagogue delivered the invocation. Rabbi Jonathan Kremer of Shirat Hayam gave the benediction. There were also remarks by Richard Cohen, president, Seashore Gardens Foundation Board of Directors; Mark Stein, chairman of the board; and Martin Klein, president and chief executive officer.
