EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - In response to news reports that career Democrat Jeff Van Drew is considering switching parties, Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey's 2nd Congressional District Brian Fitzherbert said VanDrew cannot be trusted to represent Republicans in the district.

How stupid does Desperate Jeff Van Drew think South Jersey Republicans are?" Fitzherbert said in a statement released Saturday. "Desperate Jeff knew exactly what Washington Democrats were about when he ran for Congress two years ago. In his brief time in Washington, he's voted with Nancy Pelosi over 91% of the time, Adam Schiff 88% and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 84%. How can South Jersey Republicans trust Jeff Van Drew to represent our party?"

Fitzherbert, a defense industry engineer, has positioned himself as the "ultimate outsider" who can  fight back against career politicians "who have nothing to show other than broken promises and failed policies," according to his website.

"His own party has rejected him and now he's trying to use South Jersey Republicans to cling onto his power," Fitzherbert said in the release. "Shame on him. This race has and will continue to be about improving our local economy and creating opportunity for South Jersey ensuring President Trump gets re-elected this November. There is no place for desperate Jeff Van Drew in South Jersey's Republican Party."
