VENTNOR Police charged a 13-year-old Atlantic City boy with theft of a motor vehicle, eluding, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, possession of prohibited devices (hollow-point bullets) and various motor vehicle violations following a police pursuit Sunday, Dec. 15.
According to a release from Ventnor Public Information Officer Capt. Joe Fussner, it was 6:17 p.m. when a delivery driver called police to let them know his vehicle was stolen from the 6700-block of Ventnor Avenue. The delivery driver for a local restaurant said he left his vehicle unattended and running.
A few minutes later, Ventnor City Police Sgt. Bryan Gaviria spotted the stolen vehicle on Ventnor Avenue heading into Atlantic City. Ptl. Damian Guanchez then attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not comply, and a vehicle pursuit continued into the north end of Atlantic City.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 13-year-old male from Atlantic City, eventually stopped and was taken into custody with the assistance Atlantic City Police.
The boy, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was also found to be in possession of a loaded handgun with hollow point bullets. He was charged with numerous offenses and lodged in the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center pending a court hearing.
The owner of the stolen vehicle was also issued a motor vehicle summons for leaving vehicle unattended with the engine running.
