Ventnor Beach Patrol lifeguard David Funk is promoted to the rank of captain.
VENTNOR Mayor Beth Holtzman Thursday, Jan. 10 confirmed the promotion of longtime lifeguard David Funk to the rank of captain of the Ventnor City Beach Patrol. Funk was surrounded by family members as he took the oath of office.
You are a stellar lifeguard, lieutenant, and becoming captain is not something we are giving you. It is something you have earned for many, many years, Holtzman said.
Funk, who lives in Linwood, became a lifeguard in 1992 when he was 14 years old and has been a winning lifeguard athlete, competing in the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships for more than two decades. He is also a firefighter in the Margate City Fire Department.
She said Funk is truly dedicated and loyal to Ventnor City and the Beach Patrol, and highly respected by the rank and file and the leadership of the Beach Patrol.
