Margate education supporters planning a blast from the past'

  • Margate

MARGATE High school sweethearts Anita and Keith Grimley are still going together. After many years of marriage and raising children, the couple will enjoy their second prom date Friday, Jan. 25 at Linwood Country Club. That's the night of the Margate Education Foundation's fourth annual winter social, this year

dubbed, Do Over Prom Night.

It's going to be lots of fun, Grimley said. Many of the girls are going to thrift stores to try to find formal wear from the 80s.

Yet others will wear the latest trends in formal wear, she said.

The event, which includes casino games, Atari and karaoke, will raise money to support student-based programs in the Margate City schools. Sponsors and teachers at the William H. Ross and Eugene A. Tighe schools are donating their unique services for the silent auction, such as mini-golf rounds and tennis dates with teachers.

Light fare and complimentary adult refreshments will be available.

The education foundation raises money for after school clubs, anti-bullying assemblies, STEM programs, field trips and more. Teachers who come up with creative educational programs not funded in the school district budget also receive financial support from the foundation to implement their programs.

We are very proud of our Blue Ribbon Margate school district and our fundraising efforts are here to enhance an experience that is already amazing for our children, Grimley said.

Tickets are $50 per person and include $100 in casino chips. To obtain tickets, email [email protected].
