VENTNOR The Board of Commissioners Jan. 24 authorized a payout for outgoing CFO Toro Aboderin, who resigned last month to take a position in Atlantic City government.

During her 10 years of employment with the city, Aboderin earned accumulated sick and vacation time totaling $22,957.27.

Solicitor Tim Maguire said the payout is significantly less than those in the past.

You guys should give yourself a pat on the back based upon the ordinances you introduced that limits these types of payouts, Maguire said. So, when you sat up there and said this is laying the groundwork for the future financial success of the City of Ventnor, now it's starting to come home to roost.

Albert Stanley was hired to fill the vacancy created by Aboderin's resignation at a salary of $115,000. The board swore him in at the meeting. He has provided a 30-day notice to his current employer and will work on a part-time basis for the next few weeks. In addition to being chief financial officer, Stanley will also serve as deputy tax collector and qualified purchasing agent.

In other employee matters, the board agreed to sick-time parameters for Public Works employees who will be required to produce a doctor's note for extended sick time. The Teamsters' union agreed to the revision, Administrator Maria Mento said.

The city also agreed to waive fees for city-sponsored events run by local non-profit organizations. The organizations such as the Ventnor City Fire and Police Departments, Ventnor Business Association, Holiday Parade Committee, Ventnor Beautification Committee and the Ventnor City Farmers Market will not be required to pay the various fees required to hold a special event.

It makes good sense for the quality of life in the city to make it easier for these organizations to make (these events) take place, Commissioner Tim Kriebel said.

The organizations will still be required to file applications and get the approval of the Special Events Committee, fulfill insurance requirements and will be thoroughly vetted, Kriebel said.
