Nearly 75% of all fatal crashes involved a head injury and almost all bicyclists who died were not wearing a helmet. Helmet use among those bicyclists with serious injuries was low, but it was even lower among bicyclists killed.
The office of Assemblymen John Armato and Vince Mazzeo are asking the public to donate new bicycle helmets in an effort to keep youngsters safe this summer and into the school year. All helmets collected will be distributed on National Helmet Awareness Day, Aug. 18 at locations throughout Atlantic County.
New helmets can be dropped off at the assemblymen's legislative office, 2312 New Road in Northfield.
