Ventnor Municipal Clerk Lisa H. Hand.
VENTNOR Municipal Clerk Lisa H. Hand has earned a place on General Code's 2019 Municipal Clerks Honor Roll.
Hand, who has been with the city for nearly three years, was nominated by Acting Administrator Maria Mento.
Mento said Hand has been an excellent addition to the professional staff at City Hall.
As municipal clerk she is always willing to help in any way she can and she does it with a smile 24/7, Mento said. But most importantly, she strives for excellence. She is a pleasure to work with and the city is fortunate to have her.
General Code, which provides municipalities with codification services for administrative laws and ordinances, created the online Honor Roll in 2001 to give municipal officials and private citizens a chance to recognize municipal clerks and their deputies for excellent service. There were 228 nominations announced in June, each praising the work of clerks from across the country.
Mayor Beth Holtzman said Hand is well-deserving of the honor.
She is a true asset to Ventnor. Her knowledge, dedication and new ideas have brought the Clerk's Office to a new level of service, not only for the administration but for our residents as well, Holtzman said.
Hand was hired in October 2016 as deputy clerk in anticipation of the retirement of longtime clerk Janice Callaghan and was appointed to a three-year term as clerk two month later. She also serves as registrar of vital statistics.
Hand has worked in municipal government for nearly 20 years, first as an administrative assistant in the Galloway Township Fire Department, then as planning board secretary in Eagleswood Township in Ocean County. She obtained her municipal clerk certification while she was employed in Eagleswood and was promoted to the deputy clerk position.
Hand, who lives in Galloway Township, said her career in government has been very rewarding.
You meet so many people, both municipal employees and the public, she said.
She credits her success in Ventnor to the support of longtime municipal employees.
They have been amazing to me and my success comes through them, she said.
Hand thanked Mento for taking the time to submit the nomination.
She's always so busy and being pulled in different directions, Hand said. I'm humbled that she took time out of her busy day to recognize me.
