NEWARK - The excitement and spectacle of the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer may have left the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, but the charitable imprint of the early June event endures - thanks in part of the Horizon Healthy Steps Challenge.

LPGA pros Pernilla Lindberg and Marina Alex partnered with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey for the Horizon Healthy Steps Challenge. As both pros tallied their steps over the three round tournament, it was Marina Alex of Wayne  who accumulated the most steps to win the challenge.

Alex's step total of 57,537 assured that Horizon BCBSNJ could make the maximum donation - $5,000 - to the AtlantiCare Foundation in support patient services at the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute, a Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner.

"The step challenge was a fun way to achieve Horizon's twin goals of improving the communities we serve and helping people recognize that daily activity is essential to achieving their best health, Horizon's Executive Director of Corporate Social Responsibility Jonathan R. Pearson said. Horizon and AtlantiCare have teamed up through the OMNIA Health Alliance to improve health care quality, affordability and experience and Horizon is proud to help them expand the tremendous support they provide to South Jersey residents who are being treated for cancer at the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute.

The AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute, with locations in Egg Harbor Township and Cape May Court House, offers the full spectrum of cancer care and tailors treatment plans to fit each patient's unique needs.

We are grateful Horizon and the LPGA partnered to support the care we provide those facing cancer, said Samantha Kiley, executive director for the AtlantiCare Foundation. As an organization that focuses every day on creating a healthier community, we especially appreciate the awareness this challenge created in the role of exercise in people's overall well being.
