Longport police officer recovering after being hit by alleged drunk driver

An alleged drunk driver sideswiped this Longport patrol vehicle, injuring a Longport police officer.

LONGPORT - A police officer is recovering from minor injuries following a hit and run accident  that occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Friday, March 8.

Patrol Officer Shaune Slattery was on patrol on Longport Boulevard when her vehicle was sideswiped by a white Chevy pickup truck being driven by an alleged drunk driver who left the scene of the accident.

It as 8:51p.m. when Michael K. Muller, 28, of  Somers Point, was traveling west on Longport Boulevard and sideswiped the officer's patrol vehicle. Slattery had just re-entered her marked vehicle after conducting an unrelated motor vehicle stop on the Longport Boulevard near Hospitality Drive.

After the impact, Muller left the scene of the crash. Another Longport police officer, Sgt. Jamie Silva witnessed the crash and was able to locate Muller a short time later.

Muller was arrested by members of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Members of the Longport Fire Department transported Slattery to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point where she was treated for minor injuries and later released.

The Longport Police Department would like to remind the public of the dangers of impaired driving and to always exercise due caution and reduce speeds when approaching stationary emergency vehicles with flashing lights.
