Together We Remember event will be held 7 p.m. May 18 in Northfield.
NORTHFIELD - The community is invited to Together We Remember, an interfaith, interactive event to honor and remember victims of violence, at Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Rd., 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, May 18. Names will be read throughout the evening, and participants may come for any portion of the vigil.
There are millions of people around the world who have lost their lives, yet they do not have a final resting place, explained David Estrin, founder and CEO of Together We Remember, in a video highlighting the campaign. By reading names, even for just a fleeting moment, a second or two, we can say, You existed. You were a person. You mattered.
The event is hosted by Mosaic-A Community of Sacred Partners, a group that was born out of the healing desire to connect in the wake of the horrific October 2018 attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. Members of Beth Israel in Northfield and Central Methodist Church in Linwood began a dialogue with a diverse group of people from the community to break down barriers and reduce hatred and violence.
Together We Remember will feature Kaleem Shabazz of Atlantic City, Cookie Till of Steve and Cookie's in Margate, Kathy Whitmore of the AC Leadership Studio, Atlantic County Freeholders Caren Fitzgerald and John Risley, local attorney Susan Korngut and Rabbi David M. Weis of Beth Israel.
The interactive vigil will commemorate the lives of victims of genocide, mass atrocities, and identity-based violence throughout history. Attendees will share their experiences live on social media with the hashtag #TogetherWeRemember, helping to crowdsource the world's first virtual living memorial to the victims of atrocities and the heroes who have fought against them.
