VECC students learn about different career paths

  • Ventnor

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard talk to students about careers in the military.

VENTNOR - Students at the Ventnor Educational Community Complex Friday, Nov. 15 learned about different career paths, both public and private.

Students were excited to see a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter land on their athletic fields. Members of the Coast Guard crew spoke with students about how they respond to emergencies and search for those who might get lost in the ocean.

Members of the Ventnor City Fire and Police departments brought fire trucks, an ambulance and police cruisers and talked to the students about jobs in the field of public safety, and shared the equipment they use to protect the public.

Atlantic City Electric sent a crew of linemen and a trailer with electrical equipment to demonstrate how a balloon, falling tree or a squirrel could cause electric lines to spark or explode.

Even the school's custodians got to share the ins-and-outs of their jobs and allowed students to see some of the equipment used by the school district to keep the building in tip-top shape.
