A storm churning in the Atlantic Ocean will bring several days of intermittent rain, high winds and minor to moderate street flooding the Downbeach area over the next few days.
The yet unnamed storm several hundred miles offshore will cause flooding in low-lying areas over the next five high tide cycles, starting Wednesday evening, causing road closures. Tides will be highest Thursday and Friday evenings between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Residents are advise to take precautions and move their vehicles to higher ground.
The National Weather Service Mount Holly issued a coastal flood advisory for the areas of Atlantic and Cape May counties from 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 until 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. Additional flood advisory are expected through Saturday.
Impact will be 1-2 feet above ground level near shorelines and tidal waterways. The usually vulnerable roadways will flood. Motorists are advised to not drive through flood waters and find alternate routes.
High tide will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday with minor flooding 2.2 feet above normal. Thursday morning high tide is at 7 a.m. also with minor flooding, but the evening tide at 7 p.m. will bring moderate flooding 3.2 feet above normal. Friday's high tides at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. will also bring moderate flooding between 2.8 and 3.4 feet above normal.
Expect northeast winds to be between 15-20 miles per hour with gusts to 30-40 miles per hour.
Between a quarter- to half-inch of rain is expected Wednesday. There will be intermittent rain through Saturday.
Residents are advised to keep track of weather forecasts.
