VECC students return to school as super-HEROes

  • Ventnor

VENTNOR - Students at the Ventnor Educational Community Complex showed up for the first day of school Thursday focused on learning and hoping to become super-HEROes.

Students donned their new outfits and sneakers and waited outside the elementary and middle school entrances for the school day to begin. Students in the lower grade levels lined up in front of colorful signs announcing their teachers, while middle-schoolers a few yards away milled about to catch up with their friends.

Improvements to the parking lot greeted unsuspecting parents who drive the loop that was recently improved with speed bumps and striped walkways. Parents will be permitted to drive along the lane and drop off their children at the appropriate location.

Two Downbeach mayors were spotted in the crowd of anxious parents. Both Ventnor Mayor Beth Holtzman and Longport Mayor Nicholas Russo were there to drop off their grandchildren for the first day of school.

Principals Rob Baker of the middle school and Carmela Somershoe of the elementary school said they were excited to begin a new school year.

The theme this year at the VECC across all grade levels is to be a HERO - Here, Every day, Ready to learn and On time!
