Margate's annual Fall Funfest by the Bay celebrates the season, Sept. 21-22

MARGATE - The Margate Business Association will celebrate the post-season with its 19th annual Fall Funfest by the Bay, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22 between Coolidge and Decatur avenues in the marina district along Amherst Avenue. The Funfest will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, with the adults-only Funfest After Dark will be held 8-11 p.m. on Saturday.

Funfest After Dark features live music by Mas Tequila Orchestra, dancing, wine, and Tito's Air Stream spirits tasting. Tickets for the tasting are $20 and are on sale at the event. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Margate Business Association.

At 1 p.m. on Sunday, visitors can enjoy Steve and Cookie's 23rd annual Dog Show featuring best dressed dogs and other special categories. Register your pup on Eventbrite or from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Steve & Cookie's before the show.

This year's Funfest brings fresh and exciting family friendly activities, with 125 vendor booths offering savory food and unique crafts for visitors to enjoy along with the beautiful bayfront. Funfest is loaded with music, games, backbay nature tours and educational exhibits. Crafts from more than 65 juried artisans offer a wide variety of handmade crafts including pottery, photography, fall décor, culinary offerings, handmade candles, soaps, and unique jewelry.

A featured entertainer this year on the 95.1 WAYV Kid's Stage will be magician Joe Holiday performing his jaw dropping show with comedy, audience participation and magic.

Miss New Jersey Jade Glab

Special guests include Miss New Jersey Jade Glab and Philadelphia Mummers Jersey String Band Captain Pat Walton along with a parade of well-loved characters such as Snow White, Woody, Chewbacca, Buzz Lightyear and Superhero Minion. There will also be children's gymnastics and yoga demonstrations, games, giveaways and more.

New this year is a Saturday cornhole tournament, sponsored by Colmar True Value Home Center, that's open to all ages. Register online at margatehasmore.com or on Saturday at the Washington Avenue location. Registration opens at 12:30 p.m., tournament begins at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded. Free cornhole play is available on Sunday.

Ray Scott's Dock's Wetland Wonderland will be hosting a myriad of new activities, including goats from Angels in the Pines Goat Farm, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center exhibit, turtle release, DJ Crazy Train, The Turtle Experience songs and facts about turtles, Surfrider Foundation South Jersey Chapter, local wildlife artists Jeff Quicksall and Barry Winakur, and spectacular backbay eco kayak tours. A dozen musical bands will be featured on the 100.7 WZXL main stage, playing everything from country rock to reggae.

Free jitney shuttle service is available along Ventnor and Amherst avenues, and to and from the free  Eugene Tighe School parking lot on 7800-block of Monmouth Avenue.
