Margate Community Church goes virtual during pandemic

  • Margate

MARGATE - The 90-year-old Margate Community Church is calling on 21st century digital technology to fill the void left by the coronavirus pandemic.

The COVID19 Pandemic has left empty pews at the venerable church whose landmark spire towers over Ventnor Avenue. However, Rev. Victoria Ney, known to parishioners as Pastor Vicky, has launched an extensive digital ministry to stay in touch with members and anyone in need of comfort.

Rev. Victoria "Vicky" Ney, pastor of Margate Community Church.

Pastor Vicky is using the church web site, YouTube videos and Facebook to spread the word. The congregation didn't miss a beat during Holy Week. On Maundy Thursday, night of the Last Supper, she posted a video featuring a virtual communion. She shared the holy rite with viewers on YouTube. Those tuning in could participate by partaking bread and wine at home.

This was followed on Good Friday with meditations on the meaning of the day. She capped her Holy Week outreach with a full scale Easter Sunday service on You Tube with scripture readings, sermon and special music.

Visitors to the church web site can view daily morning prayers and Pastor Vicky's sermons to help get them through the crisis.
