Work continues to replace an ACUA force main serving the Downbeach communities.
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP The Atlantic County Utilities Authority announced today that it will soon go out to bid for the second phase of a sewer main pipeline that carries wastewater from the Downbeach communities of Chelsea, Ventnor, Margate and Longport to its plant in Atlantic City.
The work comes after a sewer leak in a 30-inch force main was reported on Saturday, April 18 at the Bader Field site. To mitigate contamination of the Beach Thorofare, the ACUA hired an emergency outside contractor to install a temporary bypass system and contain the leak. The bypass became operational by April 30.
Work on a permanent force main pipeline replacement began at the end of May and is expected to be completed within a few months.
