U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew

WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman Van Drew (R-2nd) today announced his U.S. House of Representatives committee assignments for the second session of the 116th Congress.

Van Drew was appointed to the Homeland Security Committee, which oversees the Department of Homeland Security and all the agencies under the DHS umbrella created for national security. This includes the U.S. Coast Guard, which has a training facility in Cape May.

He was also appointed to the Education and Labor Committee, which oversees all federal education initiatives from pre-school to continuing education, and all labor issues from pensions to job training.

I am proud and excited to serve my country, my state, and my community on these committees. I will always be the voice of the people and a voice for reason in Washington D.C.," he said in a release. "This is a giant win for our district, and I look forward to working on the issues my constituents sent me here to solve. I plan to work with all my colleagues on education and labor issues and to ensure the security of our nation by providing agencies from FEMA's disaster recovery efforts to the Coast Guard protecting our nation with the tools they need to be successful. I look forward to this exciting new chapter.

Van Drew switched to the Republic Party after he refused to vote with fellow Democrats in Congress to impeach President Donald J. Trump.

He was elected to a two-year term in the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018 and took his oath of office in January 2019. His previous assignments included being appointed to the Agriculture Committee, which has jurisdiction ranging from rural development and crop insurance to conservation and agricultural research and development; and the House Committee on Natural Resources, which oversees fisheries management, ocean ecosystem protection, federal conservation, and species protection programs.

He is seeking re-election in the November General Election, and is being challenged by several other Republican candidates in the June primary.
