Margate Community Farmers Market opens for the season

Red Room Cafe in Ventnor offers homemade pasta at the Margate Community Farmers Market.

The Margate Community Farmers Market opened for the summer season Thursday, June 18 with more space to ensure social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city closed a portion of Monroe Avenue to allow more room for vendors to set up in the street as well as in the parking lot at Steve & Cookies By the Bay, which has hosted the market for the dozen years.

The driveway alongside the restaurant was off limits to vendors because tables have been set up there to accommodate diners during the restaurant shutdown.

There was plenty of room for shoppers and nearly everyone was wearing a face mask to prevent the potential spread of the respiratory disease.

Vendors offered seasonal farm-fresh produce, prepared food items, ice cream, honey and other hand-crafted items.

The market will be held 8:30 a.m. to noon every Thursday morning until Labor Day weekend.
