VENTNOR The city is accepting bids from qualified advertising agencies to develop and maintain exterior advertising on lifeguard stands, lifeboats, beach block street ends, and on the boardwalk and in commercial districts.
Vendors have until March 24 to submit their proposals which the city hopes will maximize revenue available from these sources.
The idea of advertising on the beach and boardwalk was suggested last year by the Board of Commissioners' Ad Hoc Advisory Committee. At the time, the committee also suggested kayak rentals at the Ski Beach bayfront park.
During prior discussions, commissioners said they didn't want the advertising to look junky and that advertising on the boardwalk should be appropriate because it runs along a residential area.
Commissioner of Community Affairs Tim Kriebel said the advertising includes erecting banners in commercial areas and on the boardwalk.
We will do it tastefully, with the banner depicting a positive message about Ventnor and 25% of the space reserved for advertising a local business, he said.
Kriebel said the successful bidder will be required to provide the city with a percentage of the revenue generated by advertisers.
We will oversee the designs, he said.
In other business, the Board of Commissioners Feb. 27 approved a resolution setting the fees for residents to obtain additional trash and recycling carts. The cost for a 95-gallon lidded cart on wheels will be $52 and the cost for a 64-gallon cart will be $46.
The city purchased trash and recycling carts for all residential properties in 2018. However, some residents may find the need to have additional carts especially during the summer months. They can use their own trash and recycling containers for overflow, but they must have lids, according to the city's ordinance governing trash and recycling collections.
Carts will be electronically tagged and registered at the requested location.
To obtain additional carts, or to get one replaced, call the city's Public Works Department at 609-823-7935.
