Stockton moves all classes online for the remainder of the semester; cancels groundbreaking

  • Atlantic County

Students have been asked to move out of Stockton's residence halls.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - Stockton University will move all instruction online for the remainder of the spring semester.

Students were notified Thursday that following state and federal guidelines to stem the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, Stockton will not hold in-person classes at any of its campuses or instructional sites for the remainder of the spring semester. Spring break ends March 24 and classes will resume using alternate instructional models on March 25.

With some exceptions, residential students are being asked to move back home for the rest of the semester. On March 23, students will get an email outlining a move-out schedule that will maintain social distancing protocols. To preserve health and safety measures, students are asked not to return to campus without a scheduled appointment.

I know that this is not the experience any of us thought we would have when the semester began, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs Michelle McDonald said. We have made these decisions to protect the health and safety of our campus and community while also preserving our core commitment to student learning.

The scheduled March 27 groundbreaking ceremony for a new residence hall at the Atlantic City campus has also been postponed.

Plans will continue for the demolition of the Eldredge Building and construction of a new six-story residence hall at Atlantic and Providence avenues, near Stockton Atlantic City.  Demolition of the Eldredge Building is projected for summer 2020. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2020. The target completion date is fall 2022.

A new date for the groundbreaking has not been scheduled.
