Four additional Atlantic County residents have died from COVID-19 complications, according to county health officials. All had pre-existing conditions and were residents of long-term care facilities. They included an 84-year-old woman and a 93-year-old man from Galloway Township, a 93-year-old man from Northfield, and a 66-year-old man from Pleasantville.
According to the state Department of Health, more than 50% of COVID-19 deaths and 17% of cases throughout the state have occurred in long-term care facilities.
The county is also reporting 39 more residents who have tested positive that include 13 males, ages 21-93, and 26 females, ages 6-90. Thirty-two additional residents have been cleared as recovered.
With today's confirmations, there have now been 1,315 cases countywide and 62 deaths with 304 recovered residents.
Seven of today's positives were identified in Egg Harbor Township, six in both Atlantic City and Hammonton, and five in Hamilton Township. Pleasantville had four new positives, while Buena Vista Township, Galloway Township and Ventnor each had two. Absecon, Brigantine, Egg Harbor City, Folsom and Margate all had one new confirmation.
Atlantic County will continue its drive-thru testing next week Tuesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 14, by appointment only, for symptomatic county residents with a doctor's prescription, proof of residency and appointment confirmation. Appointments are available 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and can be made online at www.aclink.org. All testing is conducted behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing.
Those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.
