According to unofficial results of mail-in ballots only, voters overwhelmingly voted against building a boardwalk in Margate and re-seated Longport incumbents to three year terms.
Atlantic County reported there were 116,657 ballots cast for positions from the top of the ticket to the local boards of education.
Unofficial numbers published by the Atlantic County Clerk show the non-binding referendum to build a boardwalk in Margate was defeated by a 2-1 margin, with 989 yes votes and 2,110 no votes.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, boardwalk proponent Glenn Klotz said. We did our best and we accomplished getting it to a vote. The people have spoken.
In Longport's non-partisan Board of Commissioners election, the We Love Longport slate of incumbents received votes as follows:
Dan Lawler 199, Nicholas Russo 196 and James P. Leeds 188.
Their challengers received votes as follows:
James Ulmer 157, Fran Caulfield 153 and Robert English 146. Scott C. Cianci received 51 votes, while Veronica Iezzi, who dropped out of the race too late for her name to be removed from the ballot, received 12 votes.
Carl Tripician, who ran unopposed for a seat on the Longport Board of Education received 308 votes out of 316 votes cast.
The vote totals are subject to change. The Atlantic County Board of Elections will continue to count ballots on Wednesday.
