Longport is offering a Holiday Reading Program, Nov. 30 to Dec. 31.
Longport Public Library is lifting holiday spirit with its new Holiday Reading Program, which will take place Nov. 30 through Dec. 31.
Longport's Holiday Reading Program is one of the many new programs Longport is offering this season.
We want to offer as many new activities and programs for our patrons as we can, while following all health protocols to keep our patrons and staff healthy, Library Director Ricky Gerhardt said.
Children and adults are invited to participate in reading and virtual challenges through the ReadSquared website or app and earn tickets towards a raffle drawing at the end of the event.
Longport Public Library's Holiday Reading Program is open to Longport residents and the local community, including Atlantic County, Ocean City and Avalon. An Longport library card is not required for participation.
After the success of the virtual Summer Reading Program earlier this year, Longport will continue using ReadSquared for registration and for participants to track their progress online. Participants keep track of their reading time and log their minutes into the website or app, receiving one point for each minute read. For each 100 points, readers will receive a raffle ticket for the chance to win a prize basket at the end of the program. Participants will also receive raffle tickets for completing Longport's virtual Scavenger Hunt through ReadSquared, including tasks related to the library's online resources (Longport card may be required) and Longport Historical Museum.
The library is also offering online programs, including art classes and lectures, to bring the community together virtually.
ReadSquared is available on the web or as an app and Longport Library staff are available to provide remote assistance to individuals who need help with registration.
