Ventnor awarded $1.64 million for Ventnor Avenue signalization project

  • Ventnor

VENTNOR  The South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization awarded $1.64 million to the City of Ventnor last week to upgrade traffic signals along Ventnor Avenue.

This is great said Mayor Beth Holtzman. It allows the city to make much needed signalization improvements on its portion of Ventnor Avenue, while the county makes their improvements to the county portion of Ventnor Avenue.

The objectives of the city's $1.64 million portion of the project is to optimize five signals on the Ventnor Avenue corridor from Oxford Avenue to Baton Rouge Avenue by upgrading signal equipment and developing traffic signal timing plans that provide two-way progression along this section of Ventnor Avenue, minimize overall intersection and network delay, reduce emissions, and improve safety.

Atlantic County recently awarded a $9.7 million contract for traffic signal upgrades, will improve 28 intersections on Ventnor Avenue from Dorset Avenue to the Borough of Longport.

This grant plus the county effort will result in upgrading traffic signals along the entire length of Ventnor Avenue from Longport to the Atlantic City boundary, Commissioner Landgraf said.

Funds for this grant are provided through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality  program which provides grants for transportation projects and programs to help meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act. Funding is available to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
