Trick or treating is on in Ventnor and Margate

  • Ventnor

Ventnor City commissioners last week agreed to allow trick or treating according to Gov. Phil Murphy's safety guidelines. However, the city will not hold a Trunk or Treat event like it did last year for the first time ever.

Trick or treating will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Margate Police also announced trick or treating during the same hours.

Residents distributing candy are asked to wear a mask when providing children with treats and follow social distancing guidelines, limiting direct contact with tricksters as much as possible.

Parents are advised to make sure their child wears a protective face covering along with their Halloween mask, and travel in small groups with household members, maintaining 6-foot social distancing from other non-family groups. Refrain from trick or treating if someone in the household is not feeling well, has a fever or was confirmed positive for COVID-19.

The normal safety guidelines apply, such as carrying a flashlight or wearing reflective gear to be seen in the dark and looking both ways before stepping into the street. Trick or treaters should only go to homes that are clearly giving out candy, never enter a stranger's home, and only accept treats that are in sealed packages. Parents should carefully inspect their child's bag to ensure their treats are safe to eat.

Anyone who does not want to provide treats this year is asked to leave their front porch lights off during trick or treat hours.

Longport has yet to set trick or treating hours.
