Sustainable Margate publishes how-to make a rain barrel video

  • Margate

MARGATE - Sustainable Margate was planning to hold an in-person rain barrel making workshop in May, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the workshop.

Not to be deterred from educating the public on how to conserve water and make a home made rain barrel, the Margate green team joined other green teams in the Atlantic and Cape May county areas and enlisted the help of Great Egg Harbor River Watershed Ambassador Lisa Schroeder to conduct the workshop on the Zoom meeting platform. The workshop was held on May 27, and included instructions on the benefits of installing a rain barrel to collect water that can be used to water your garden. Rain barrels are a good way to retain rain water and mitigate flooding.

Sustainable Margate Chairman Steve Jasiecki enlisted the Surfrider Foundation South Jersey Chapter Ocean Friendly Gardens program to create a how-to video that explains the process, using an empty barrel, heavy duty screening and brass fixtures that can be purchased at any hardware store.
