In Margate, New Year's Eve will be celebrated like no other

  • Margate

MARGATE - If there were ever a more welcomed New Year, it will be 2021, and Margate plans to ring out 2020 with a boom, blast and colors bursting in air.

The city has rescheduled its 4th of July fireworks celebration for a second time in the year of COVID-19. It is now planning to celebrate New Year's with a fireworks display at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 on the beach at Granville Avenue.

The Margate Mothers Association sponsors the fireworks display each year on July 4, but it had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and was supposed to be held this weekend during the Margate Business Association's annual Fall Funfest By the Bay.

However, that celebration has also been scaled back to a one-day shopping event with area merchants participating with give-aways, special deals and localized entertainment on Saturday, Sept. 26. Consequently, the fireworks display has been postponed a second time.

Those flocking to the beach on New Year's Eve to view the fireworks are requested to observe social distancing protocols.
