The Longport Public Library, 2305 Atlantic Ave., has announced the following events for the month of October.

Virtual Crafts for Kids, Wednesdays and Saturdays through Oct. 31. Pick up the materials from Longport Public Library for this twice weekly craft. Autumn craft themes include doorhangers, bracelets and more. Most crafts include all materials required. Ages 3-8, adult assistance may be required for some crafts. Registration required. Virtual Fall Lecture Series, Beach Nesting Birds: The Birds of Summer, Monday, Oct. 5, 6:30 p.m. Todd Pover, a senior wildlife biologist for the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, will explore the unique biology and behavior of New Jersey's beach nesting shorebirds, including piping plover, least tern, black skimmers, and American oystercatchers. Learn about the challenges facing biologists protecting endangered species on busy tourist-filled beaches, the latest management strategies and the progress being made towards recovery. Trivia Saturday in the Gazebo, Oct. 17, 2 p.m. Get your team together and test your knowledge. This is a free event, but registration is required. Virtual Sandy Pages Book Club, The Henna Artist," Monday, Oct. 19, 1 p.m. Sandy Pages book club will discuss The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi. This is a free event open to anyone who has read the month's discussion title, but registration is required. Copies of the book are available to Longport Public Library patrons. Virtual Cooking Basics and Kitchen Hacks, Monday, Oct. 19, 6:30 p.m. In this Fall Lecture Series edition, Joanne Kinsey, family and community health sciences educator at Rutgers Cooperative Extension, covers basic cooking skills, equipment and simple tips to make your cooking experience easier and more nutritious.
