EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - The Margate Terrapin Rescue Project will be featured this week as the ACUA celebrates its month-long virtual Earth Month program, in lieu of the organization's in-person Earth Day Celebration.
The online program will be held 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14. It is just one of the many virtual environmental programs being offered each day during the month of April.
Diamondback terrapins are a unique type of turtle found exclusively in brackish waters and salt marshes, including those areas in our local back bays. The Margate Terrapin Rescue Project will introduce you to these special turtles, and demonstrate how the organization works to protect them along the Downbeach Express causeway and how you can help save these amazing creatures.
Other programs during the second week of Earth Month focus on area waterways and parks, including a look at the Forsythe Wildlife Refuge and the Great Egg Harbor River Watershed. The events lead up to the Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweeps, 9-noon on Saturday, April 17.
