Atlantic County has reported that the number of new COVID-19 cases went from being in the single digits during the month of June to double digits in July.

On Sunday, Aug. 1 the county Health Department reported 43 new COVID-19 cases among 24 females, ages 6-83, and 19 males, ages 1-64,  and no deaths.

There was one death reported on July 29 and again on July 30.

Atlantic County had a high of 406 cases reported on Jan. 24 when the county first started distributing the COVID-19 vaccine, but those numbers dropped dramatically as more people become vaccinated.

Of the new cases reported on Sunday, there were three in Ventnor City and one each in Margate and Longport.

On Monday, Aug. 2, the county reported 27 new cases in 11 males, ages 15-62, and 16 females, ages 16-71. There were two cases reported in Ventnor and one case in Margate.

New Jersey has one of the country's highest vaccination rates, but metrics are trending in the wrong direction, Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement last week, encouraging residents and visitors to mask-up indoors when the vaccine status of other individuals is unknown.

He also encouraged residents and visitors to get vaccinated.

The vaccines are proven safe and highly effective, and are the surest way we can end this pandemic, he said.
