MARGATE - The Margate Police Department Wednesday, Aug. 11 held its annual Law Day event in the parking lot behind the Margate Public Library.

Det. Erin Borelli organized the annual event to make it more meaningful for the adults and more fun for the children. New activities this year included providing parents with instructions on how to property secure their children in car seats, and providing children, teens and adults with the opportunity to register their bicycles.

Det. Erin Borelli devised a little rubber ducky game that provided all the children with free giveaways.

Police Chief Matt Hankinson said two officers were recently state certified as car seat technicians and will be able to provide the service to parents whenever appropriate, and registering bicycles make them easier to track in the event they go missing.

"We wanted Law Day to be more engaging for the kids and parents. We wanted it to be a real community event," he said, as one youngster stopped by to salute the chief.

The Margate Dairy Bar provided free water ice and a hot dog vendor offered light fare with all the fixings, Borelli said.

Atlantic County 911 Emergency Management was also present.

Children, wearing paper police caps and plastic badges, were fixated on the police vehicles, including a motorcycle, pickup truck and cruisers equipped with sirens, computers and radios.

Borelli said it took a few weeks to organize the event, which included balloon art and a little rubber ducky game that provided all the children with free giveaways.

"Next up is our annual toy drive in December," Borelli said.
