SOMERS POINT - Shore Medical Center announced that Erin Mitchell of Mays Landing has been selected as its Employee of the Month for August. A registered nurse on the 5th Stainton Unit, Mitchell began her career at Shore in July 1997.
Nurse Manager Elaine Toolsie said she has great confidence in Erin Mitchell.
"Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Erin, as chair for the Unit Council, has made several pointers to better serve our COVID-19 patients. Many of these took the unit through uncharted pathways, but today, 5th Stainton is as comfortable caring for COVID-19 patients as it would be for the common cold," Toolsie said.
Mitchell handled an unexpected incident on the unit in January that demonstrated her leadership.
"Through quick thinking, Erin was able to maneuver the situation and assure no one was adversely affected," Toolsie said.
Aside from being quick-thinking and a go-to member of the 5th Stainton team, Mitchell is also a strong advocate for her patients.
"That ability provides the drive we all see when challenges arise. Her teamwork, interpersonal skills, and her ability to appeal to others are qualities that we all seek in our teams," Toolsie said.
