Many older citizens viewed the airshow from the comfort of Ventnor's boardwalk pavilion.

The Atlantic City Air Show returned Aug. 18 for its 18th performance along the beaches of Absecon Island. This year's theme was "A Salute to Those Who Serve," honoring front-line healthcare workers who put their lives on the line to help those afflicted with COVID-19.

The pandemic canceled last year's event, but it returned in full force Wednesday, Aug. 18 to the delight of thousands of spectators who flocked to the beach and boardwalks to view the military's finest pilots perform their aerial dynamics.

Visitors to boardwalk resorts enjoyed watching the airshow from their pool deck.

Overcast skies delayed the start of the show until the clouds cleared to make their tight maneuvers visible. Binoculars and sunglasses were the gear of the day for many spectators.

The main event, the U.S. Airforce Thunderbirds team took to the sky at 3 p.m., about an hour later than originally scheduled. Their performance wowed spectators nonetheless.

Downbeach residents caught their act from the Ventnor City Pier, which was open to the public for the day and offered free fishing until 10 p.m. Many senior citizens viewed the show from the comfort of shady pavilions along the boardwalk.

The Thunderbirds' finale always includes a low fly over the Ventnor City Pier.
