Longport to hold public meeting on borough's Hazard Mitigation Plan

LONGPORT - The borough will hold an open public meeting 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27 to review its Hazard Mitigation Plan. The public is invited to participate in the planning process on issues impacting the community. The meeting will be held in commission chambers at Longport Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave.

Items up for discussion include reviewing current hazards, the results of a mitigation survey, and prioritizing hazards. The public will also learn about an update on the Atlantic County All Hazard Mitigation Plan, a nuisance flooding analysis, warning system, and grant opportunities available from FEMA to elevate properties.

The borough will share information on a flood insurance analysis and plan and learn about the proposed project that will address flooding on Winchester Avenue.

Future discussions include the NJ DEP and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers "Back Bay Study", Atlantic Electric grid plan and proposed changes to the DEP's Flood Hazard Control Act.
