ATLANTIC CITY At its monthly meeting Tuesday, Feb. 16 the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority Board of Directors preliminarily approved a $2.25 million grant to rehabilitate a training and office facility for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 68.
It will cost the union $4.5 million to create a training center for 100 students, faculty and members at its property at 1501 Pacific Ave. The new center will provide residents of Atlantic City access to train in skilled trades to use directly in industries within Atlantic City.
The IUOE helps residents find work that supports and sustains their families, CRDA Board Chairman Robert Mulcahy said in a release. This development project will allow them to offer accessible training at a more affordable cost to Atlantic City residents.
The grant will pay for construction costs in rehabilitating the property and create 60 temporary jobs.
A public hearing will be held before final grant approval.
This type of development project is perfect for Atlantic City, CRDA Executive Director Matt Doherty said. It will turn a vacant building into a training center and office facility that will directly benefit Atlantic City residents.
In other business today, the board reserving approximately $492,000 for Atlantic Cape Community College to provide training programs under the Atlantic City Works Program, which trains unemployed or underemployed residents.
The board also preliminarily approved a $10 million long-term loan for the Stockton University Atlantic City Campus Phase II Project.
