After several days without COVID-19 deaths, the Atlantic County Health Department Thursday, Feb. 18 reported nine deaths, including an 85-year-old Ventnor woman.
Other deaths were reported as follows: two Atlantic City women ages 78 and 57; a 78-year-old Egg Harbor Township man; two Galloway Township women ages 87 and 93; a 50-year-old Hammonton woman; a 77-year-old Linwood woman; and a 55-year-old Pleasantville man. Eight of the nine had known pre-existing conditions.
The county also reported 95 new COVID-19 positives in 51 males, ages 13-99, and 44 females, ages 1-92.
According to Atlantic County Health Officer Pat Diamond, many of the recent positives were a result of family gatherings. She advised residents to continue wash hands often, wear masks and socially distance.
She also noted a decrease in influenza cases this year, which she attributed to COVID-19 prevention protocols.
Diamond told the Board of County Commissioners Feb 16 that 4,700 residents had received their first COVID-19 vaccination, and 2,000 received their second dose.
She also noted that the vaccination clinic being held at Atlantic Cape Community College would close after second shots were administered and move to the mega-site at the Atlantic City Convention Center, where more than 9,000 people have received their first shot, and 1,500 received their second shot.
