VENTNOR City residents have come forward to do the behind-the-scenes work that make Ventnor a great place to live, work and play.
The Board of Commissioners Jan. 14 appointed residents to serve on boards and committees addressing environmental health, prevention of drug and alcohol abuse, and the needs and wants of the community.
The Green Team Advisory Committee will include nine Downbeach residents working to build a sustainable community. They are Ventnor residents Diane Birkbeck, Monica Coffey, Beth Kwart, Mary Lenahan, Ann Maise, Peter Mokover, Jose Ruiz Jr., Debbie Conrad and Sustainable Margate Chairman Steve Jasiecki.
The city also appointed a Creative Team to support the Green Team by linking art and culture in support of sustainability. The Ventnor City Arts and Cultural Alliance, which works to create a vibrant arts community, foster creative expression and art education, will assist with green team environmental action items. Members are Mike Advena, Diane Birkbeck, Janet Bodoff, Susan Van Duyne Hunter, Dina Engel, Mary Marino, Andy and Penni Starer and Mayor Beth Holtzman.
The Ventnor City Municipal Alliance, which is funded in part by the municipality and state revenue generated from fines imposed for drug offenses, works to prevent young people from getting involved with negative behaviors. Some of the programs are offered through the city schools, arts community and includes the annual National Night Out held annually on the first Tuesday of August.
Members include Mayor Beth Holtzman, Chairman Police Chief Douglas Biagi, Coordinator Kathleen McFadden of Atlantic Prevention Resources, Pastor James Macabeo, Matthew Burnside, James Burnside, Paula Maccagnano, Michael Advena, Susan Van Duyne Hunter, Michael Tripician and Albert Battaglia.
The ad hoc Citizens Advisory Committee provides commissioners with a citizens perspective on various government operations, including finance and budget, public works, public safety, economic development, code and construction, recreation and other issues affecting the community.
Members are Scott Bluth, Ed Cahan, Tom Hewitt, Kenneth Gordon, Jim Quinlan, Bill Thomas, Christopher Breece, Kenneth Zucker, Scott Oster, Bob Gross, Jeff Jaskol and Rand Snyderman.
