Shore Medical Center to host panel on pain and opioid epidemic

SOMERS POINT Shore Medical Center is launching a new quarterly community health education series, Wellness Together, with the first event focusing on pain management and the opioid crisis in Atlantic and Cape May counties.

The panel discussion will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14 at Greate Bay Country Club, 910 Somers PointMays Landing Road, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and includes light desserts and refreshments.

Guests will hear from experts in healthcare, law enforcement and mental health and addiction agencies and learn how they all work together to prevent opioid addiction and help those who are struggling with addiction.

Featured panelists include social worker Tracy Fooks, LCSW, LCADC, general surgeons Dr. David May and Dr. John J. Millili, Atlantic County Sherriff Eric Scheffler and Laurie K. Smith of Join Together Atlantic County.

In addition to the panel discussion, guests will have an opportunity to tour the mobile outreach vehicle Hope One Atlantic County, an initiative by the Atlantic County Sheriff's Department to tackle opioid addiction. Guests will also have an opportunity to visit information tables before and after the panel discussion.
