MARGATE While numerous graduates of the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School received scholarship awards at their eighth grade awards ceremony held Wednesday morning, June 16, they also presented checks to area charities. During the school year, the students raised $5,000 for their classmates and charity.
Earlier this school year the class held a Restaurant Raffle Ticket Fundraiser to raise money for their eighth grade activities. The prize was dinner for 10 people at a local restaurant of their choice. This fundraiser garnered more than $10,000, $5,000 of which supported their activities and $5,000 for charities.

Following this fundraiser, the eighth grade class was tasked with deciding what charities to award. Students were given to opportunity to present the charities that they wanted to support to their classmates. Following their presentations, the students voted and the top four charities were awarded checks.
Due to COVID restrictions, a representative from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was unable to attend the presentation. Pictured here is Zuza Turska with the graduating class' $2,000 donation.
Winning a majority of the student votes, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, presented by Zuzu Turska, as awarded $2,000. American Legion Post 295 Post Crashers, presented by Christopher Garrabrandt; Street Love Foundation, presented by Avery Silva; and CASA Atlantic Cape May Counties, presented by Sean and Siena Eden, will each receive $1,000.
Representatives from most of the selected charities were on-hand to receive the checks from the eighth grade class. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a representative from St. Jude's was unable to attend.
