NJ Attorney General meets with President Biden on ways to combat gun violence

WASHINGTON, D.C. New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal Wednesday, June 23 joined President Joe Biden, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, White House Domestic Policy Council Director Susan Rice, White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs Director Julie Rodriguez, and a small group of municipal leaders and advocates at the White House to discuss local efforts to combat gun violence and support community violence intervention programming.

During the roundtable discussion held in the Roosevelt Room, Grewal emphasized the importance of federal-state partnerships to disrupt illegal firearm trafficking, share intelligence on crime guns, and support hospital based violence intervention programs.

After the meeting Biden and Garland delivered remarks in the State Dining Room detailing the White House's comprehensive strategy to combat gun violence and other violent crime.

According to a release, Gov. Phil Murphy and Grewal are leading a comprehensive, statewide effort to reduce gun deaths - one that pairs the latest evidence based policing strategies with innovative, community-based prevention programs.

The approach is simple, Grewal said.

• Treat the root causes of violence.


• Keep guns away from those most likely to harm others.


• And take swift action against those who break the law.
