LONGPORT The borough introduced its 2021 municipal budget Wednesday, March 17. The $9.5 million budget, which is up $405,272 over last year, will not increase taxes.

The local purpose tax rate will remain unchanged at $.326 per $100 of assessed valuation. A homeowner with a property assessed at $750,000 will pay $2,448 for municipal services. A $15.53 million increase in net valuation taxable helped keep the tax rate stable.

The budget includes the minimum library tax totaling $652,827, bringing the total amount to be raised by taxation to $6,820,536.

The budget includes increases in certain appropriations, including an additional $25,000 for engineering, $86,445 for police salaries and expenses, $23,287 for fire salaries and expenses, and $93,105 for Beach Patrol salaries and expenses.

The borough will apply $1.3 million in surplus funds to bolster the budget, leaving $1.25 million in reserve.

A full budget presentation and public hearing will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 21.

In other business, the Board of Commissioners approved a resolution setting fees for use of municipal property, including the Community Center, tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, and other public parks for use by residents, non-residents, and non-profit and for-profit organizations. Another resolution gives the recreation director the ability to schedule use of recreational facilities.
