Weekly: Craft for Kids (VIRTUAL)

Pick up the materials from Longport Public Library for this weekly craft. Crafts include doorhangers, bracelets and more. Most crafts include all materials required. Monday-Saturday, April 5-10: Spring Break Crafts for Kids (VIRTUAL)

Join us for this special event. Each day will bring a new Kids Craft Kit for ages 3-8 (adult assistance may be required for some crafts). Monday, April 12, 1 p.m.: Longport Historical Museum Presents: Separation of Powers: Inside the Story of We the People exhibit at the National Constitution Center (VIRTUAL)

Join a discussion of the Separation of Powers inside the Story of We the People exhibit at the National Constitution Center. Discuss how the notions of checks and balances among three different branches of government were debated at the Constitutional Convention and how the roles of the three branches have evolved over time. The discussion will be set against the backdrop of model replicas of the Capitol, White House, and Supreme Court building and include little known stories of each. Tuesday, April 13, 6:30 p.m.: LECTURE SERIES: Focus on Fungi (VIRTUAL)

Joanne Kinsey of Rutgers Edu will be presenting this virtual lecture, Focus on Fungi: Mushrooms and Their Health Benefits. Did you know that mushrooms and other fungi affect every facet of human life? New research shows that mushrooms are beneficial to health. Learn how to cook with mushrooms and receive tasty mushroom recipes. Ms. Kinsey is the Family and Community Health Sciences Educator, Rutgers Cooperative Extension in Atlantic and Ocean Counties funded through the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. Her specialization areas are nutrition, worksite wellness and healthy lifestyle, human development, laughter therapy and technology in education. Sandy Pages book club will be meeting to discuss The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel. This is a free event open to anyone who has read the month's discussion title, but registration is required. This event will be held in Longport Commission Chambers. *Facial coverings must be worn at all times, and participants must maintain a 6-foot social distance. Tuesday, April 20, 6:30 p.m.: Longport Historical Museum Presents: Famous and Forgotten Ships and Shipwrecks of the Jersey Shore (VIRTUAL)

The treacherous Jersey shore has been the untimely grave of thousands of seafaring vessels. This well-illustrated presentation examines a select group of New Jersey ships and shipwrecks reflecting the importance of maritime transportation to the history of the state.  An eclectic range of vessels is examined, from Native American dugout canoes to colonial privateers, a Durham boat, Civil War submarine and 20th-century ocean liners.  Shipwrecks and the artifacts found in them are time capsules of history that reveal important the themes that have shaped the state and nation's history.
