Ventnor City Police arrested a West Deptford man Thursday night and charged him with various weapons and drug offenses, including assault on a police officer.
It was 9:15 p.m. on May 20 when Officer Lindsay Sochoky was flagged down by a juvenile who reported being assaulted and threatened by another male, according to a release from Capt. Joe Fussner.
The accused male fled the area on a bicycle and was believed to be in possession of a weapon. Additional officers responded into the area and located the accused male, identified as David P. Shields Jr., 41, of West Deptford, in the 100-block of N. Dorset Avenue.
Shields did not comply with officers' commands and a brief struggle ensued. He was found in possession of a 45-caliber Colt handgun and placed into custody.
Investigating Officers Lindsay Sochocky and Damian Guanchez charged Shields with possession of a weapon, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and simple assault.
He was lodged into the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a hearing.
